Introduction
We recently changed the Myapps virtual app and desktop delivery vendor from Citrix to Parallels RAS. The functionality is the same and it can be accessed on and off campus without the need for VPN.
If you prefer to access files directly to and from your computer while working in Myapps, we recommend you utilize their client.
Instructions
Table of Contents
Web
To access Myapps from Mac via any web browser, navigate to the page myapps.wesleyan.edu. You will be re-directed to Wesleyan's single sign-on. Enter your username and password then click Login. Follow any Duo prompts if necessary.
You will then see applications and desktops available to you. You can hover over an item and star it as a favorite, or change sorting and viewing options.
Using Multiple Monitors
If you have and would like to use multiple monitors, you can. Click on the People icon at the top right of the window and click Settings. This will open a second browser window and you can arrange them as needed.
Navigate to Displays and check off "Enable Multiple Displays" and press the plus sign on the empty monitor. Click Save.
NOTE: You will need to allow pop-ups for the site if you are using an ad or pop-up blocker. Otherwise you will receive an error from Myapps and your browser.
Save and access files from your computer
Web
When accessing Myapps from a web browser, you can only transfer saved files to and from your computer, or saved files in the virtual environment.
If you launched an individual application, you will see icons at the bottom right of your browser window.
If you launched Myapps Desktop, these icons will be on the right side of the window.
Click the icon to save a file from Myapps to your computer. Click the
icon to upload a file from your computer.
Client
When accessing Myapps from the Parallels Client, you can save and work on files directly to your Mac. It will show in the virtual environment's File Explorer as a redirected drive/folder. See the next section in this article to install the client.
Installing Mac Client
If you are using a Wesleyan owned computer, look for Self Service in the Applications folder. (You do not need to use VPN for this). Double click on the icon and sign in with your Wesleyan credentials. Search for Parallels Client and click Install. It will install the client in the Applications folder.
If you are using a personal device, you will need to open the Apple App Store and search for Parallels Client. There is no cost, however you will need an Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) to "purchase." The app will install the client in the Applications folder.
Navigate to the Applications folder and open Parallels Client for the first time. Click Create Connection.
Enter myapps.wesleyan.edu as the server address and click Next.
Leave the connection mode as Gateway SSL Mode. You can change the Friendly name to anything you would like. Click Advanced Settings.
Change authentication type drop down menu to Web and click OK.
Your default web browser will open to Wesleyan's Single Sign-On page. Enter your username and password then click Login. Follow any Duo prompts if necessary.
If you are asked to allow the site to open tuxclient links or of the associated app, you can check off Always allow and then Open Parallels Client.app/Open Link (your browser window may vary slightly).
You will need to give permission on your Mac to access files. Click the Confirm button and optionally, check off Don't ask me again.
A Finder window will open. You will need to specify the folder you would like to access and save files to. Alternatively you can select an entire hard drive, external drive, or network drive. In this example, Desktop was chosen.
The folder you specified is now available when you are using an app or desktop in Myapps. As noted in the screen shot below, you can add more folders or drives in the future.
When you first open an app or desktop, you will be presented a few Mac dialog windows. You can choose Don't Allow or Allow to find devices on local networks and access to your Camera.
You will be asked to Open System Settings or Deny Accessibility Access, which will enable the accessibility features in MacOS to interact with Parallels Client.
If you click Open System Settings, the appropriate window will open. Toggle Parallels Client on.
You will be asked to enter a password or use Touch ID, depending on your Mac and how it is configured.
Troubleshooting
403 Forbidden
If you get a "403 Forbidden" error page or similar, we may need you to collect logs for our vendor to analyze. Please see KB0011720 for more detail.
NVIDIA License Acquired
When you open an individual application you may see this pop up in the upper right corner. You can safely close it. It is a notification that the GPU is licensed properly and it will renew on its own. ITS is looking into hiding this notification with the service provider.
