Google Gemini (formerly Bard) is Google's AI assistant. Gemini is available in several tiers, with different names. Please note, this information is accurate as of October 2024, but functionality and access are likely to continue to change in the upcoming weeks and months.
Gemini Chat Experience
Gemini Chat is available free of charge through your Wesleyan Google account, and can be accessed at gemini.google.com or through your Google Apps≈
Users can upload data the university’s Data Security and Privacy Protection Policy classifies as "Public" and "Classified" into Gemini when signed in through their Wesleyan account. Any information classified as “Restricted” cannot be entered. Examples of data that should not be used are information that the user has a contractual, legal, or regulatory obligation to protect, which includes, but is not limited to, information covered by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Social Security Numbers (SSNs), and Protected Health Information (PHI). Researchers should be sure to review guidelines governing the privacy of their research data before entering it into Gemini.
Gemini for Workspace
This tier includes Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium, and is integrated into Google Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Slides and Meet. It is currently not available with the Wesleyan Google license. As of October 17, 2024, Google also announced NotebookLM Business, which will be offered in the future via Google Workspace. Accordingly, NotebookLM is not part of the Wesleyan Google account.
