Here are some of the key things to know regarding tech at Wes.
"Eduroam" is the primary wireless network at Wesleyan for all people with Wesleyan SSO credentials. Use your full Wesleyan email address, username@wesleyan.edu and password to connect.
What is Eduroam and why use it?
Eduroam is a secure, world-wide wireless access service developed for the international research and education community. If you are traveling, studying abroad, or visiting a friend at another campus, you may access wireless at any institution that participates in Eduroam. Once you connect to Eduroam, that connection will persist regardless of where you are as long as the other institution is participating.
Game consoles and streaming devices (as well as other Internet connected devices) cannot connect to the Eduroam network. Instead, you need to connect them to cardinal_devices network. Details on how to do that are here.
*Please do NOT bring wireless personal printers to campus. Wireless personal printers cannot connect to our campus network and the devices disrupt Wifi connectivity for other supported devices.
WesPortal is your hub to nearly all things online at Wesleyan. You can access WesPortal at https://webapps.wesleyan.edu/portal or via the Wesleyan.edu home page in the top right. It can seem overwhelming at first. Be sure to favorite the places you hit most to make your life as easy as possible. The most commonly accessed systems are easily available in the menu bar at the top as soon as you login. These include:
Your Wes email is in our Gmail environment. Don't want to check multiple email accounts? Forward your Wesleyan account to the one you use most to make sure you don't miss important messages. The entire Google suite is available for easy collaboration, file storage, and creating group lists. Drive links you to your personal Google Drive space in Google Workspace. The email icon links to your Wesleyan email.
Microsoft 365 is an essential tool suite. It is available to all active students, faculty, and staff online via a web browser. Many Microsoft 365 applications are also available for desktop/laptop and mobile download on your personal computer and mobile devices. Login with your Wesleyan SSO/email address and password. You can also take advantage of all the Microsoft 365 suite has to offer, including cloud storage (up to 5TB) on OneDrive. Students can download Microsoft 365 apps on up to 5 of their personal devices (computers / smart phone / tablet) while they are a student at Wesleyan.
Moodle is Wesleyan's learning management system. Many faculty use Moodle for their course syllabus, content, and more. Moodle is available via your WesPortal or wesmoodle.wesleyan.edu
Every student at Wesleyan has access to a Zoom Pro license. This allows students to host Zoom meetings with up to 300 people for any duration. Login to Zoom via your WesPortal or https://wesleyan.zoom.us/
Active Wesleyan student, faculty, and staff have access to Coursera and may sign-in with their Wesleyan credentials to create their personal Coursera account. Please visit the Coursera Online Learning for Campus knowledge article for instructions for creating your Coursera account.
Wesleyan ITS makes many software programs available to the campus community, for use while at Wesleyan. Please consult Software available for faculty and students for detailed information.
Wesleyan offers most of its academic software (as permissible by license) as virtual applications that can be run from student owned computers. This environment is called MyApps, and users can navigate to it at myapps.wesleyan.edu. Information about MyApps is here.
While on campus, Wesleyan students can print to the print queue Wes-Find-Me-Printers from a Wesleyan lab computer and from their personal computer, smart phone, or tablet. You download the app and pick up your print job at any available printer/copier throughout campus. Need to print a poster or other large format document? Cardinal Print can help you at locally competitive fees.
Personal wireless printers are not supported in the dorms. If you have your own printer, you will need to connect it directly to your computer/laptop. You can visit Cardinal Tech to purchase printer cables and personal printers.
