For those who plan on working remotely, GlobalProtect is the VPN service at Wesleyan. Although most Wesleyan services and applications are easily accessible from off-campus without the need for VPN connection (such as Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, Google Suite, etc), there are some services that require the use of VPN. These include but are not limited to systems with highly secure data, file shares, or remote desktop access.
This article will show you how to install GlobalProtect on Windows. For Mac instructions, please click here.
1) In a web browser, navigate to https://vpn.wesleyan.edu
2) If prompted, enter your Wesleyan SSO Credentials and Authenticate with Duo, otherwise, skip to Step 3 (below).
3) Select the version appropriate for your operating system. On newer Windows computers, it is Windows 64-Bit. Click Download Windows 64 Bit GlobalProtect agent to initiate the download.
The file will then be saved to where your browser is configured to save your downloads (typically the downloads folder).
4) Locate the installer file, and run the installer.
5) Follow the instructions from the installer to install the software.
You will receive a prompt when the installation was successful. Click Close to exit.
6) By default, GlobalProtect should automatically be running on your computer. Click on the icon on your taskbar (grey globe).
If you can't find the GlobalProtect icon on your taskbar, the first place to check is the extended system tray, which can be opened by clicking on the caret (^) button.
TIP: For easier access to GlobalProtect, you can move it to your main system tray on your Taskbar. This can be done one of two ways:
Click and drag the icon over to the system tray.
Right-click on the Taskbar, click Taskbar Settings, select and enable GlobalProtect to appear on the TaskBar.
If it is not running, go to your start menu, and then click GlobalProtect (listed under the Palo Alto Networks folder).
7) The first time you launch GlobalProtect, you should see the Welcome screen, click Get Started.
You will be prompted to enter the portal address, enter vpn.wesleyan.edu.
Click Connect when you are finished.
8) Either the embedded browser from the application or your web browser will open. If you are not currently logged into WesPortal, you will be prompted to login. Authenticate with Duo when prompted. If you are currently logged into WesPortal, jump to Step 9 (below).
9) You will be connected to FortiClient. If you open your GlobalProtect application, you should see that the status is Connected. The icon on your System Tray will have a blue globe w/ a black shield towards the bottom right corner.
When you no longer require VPN connection, click on the GlobalProtect icon on your System Tray, and then click Disconnect
To reconnect click on the Global Connect icon in your taskbar. The portal address should be saved. Click Connect.
